Wind ensembles are usually found only in colleges and universities. There is a specific literature written for wind ensemble which takes advantage of the way it can sound "bandy" and then symphonic, depending on the composition. Differing from concert bands, there is usually only one person to a part and this makes it interesting for the performer, as well as challenging.

The HWE (a community organization) presented a huge concert on November 16 in the evening at the wonderful Neurosciences Institute. Great accoutics, stadium seating yet intimate size. They performed well for a majority of the works, but I think they wore out toward the end. Very good intonation overall and some solid solo work. Kudos to the horns and low brass for section work.
