Enjoy great views on this great late Fall hike! We'll begin at the beautiful Lake Winfield Scott Recreation Area. While we wait for everyone to arrive there is an optional 4/10th mile warm up walk around the lake. Once everyone arrives we'll begin our ascent via the Slaughter Creek Trail through a pleasant cove hardwood forest. We'll parallel Slaughter Creek and cross several small streams as we gain 1,050 feet to Slaughter Gap. From here we'll take the Appalachian trail up to Blood Mountain. We'll climb the remaining 500 feet to reach the summit where spectacular winter views await us. We'll return via Jarrard Gap. Distance: 7.4 miles Terrain: Moderate Time: 5 hrs. +/- Elevation Gain: 1600 feet Rating: Moderate - Due to some difficult terrain and length Drive time: 1hr. 45 min. Required Items: Hiking Shoes and Attire, Water - 2 liters, Lunch and Snacks Recommended Items: Camera, Trekking Poles Carpool Costs: Your driver will determine the actual costs and divide among riders. Please be courteous and pay your driver. Distance is 130 miles round trip. Approximate cost is $5 per person. Assumes 20mpg and 4 persons per vehicle. Carpool Location: MARTA Mansell Park and Ridge. GA 400 Mansell Rd Exit. Carpool Time: 8:45am with departure at 9:00am sharp. Parking Fee: $3 per vehicle. Please pay your driver your share.
