High Concept: Creating and Selling to Hollywood lecture July 2, 2005

Screenwriter Steve Kaire will present ?High Concept: Creating and Selling to Hollywood? at the Alameda Writers Group (AWG) meeting in July.

Admission is free, and the library validates parking in the structure at Harvard and Maryland.

Among the small group of writers who can sell material off a pitch, Kaire has sold or optioned eight projects to the major studios including Warners, Columbia, United Artists and Interscope. David Permut, producer of the film ?Face Off?, has called him a ?one man story department.?

According to Kaire, mainstream studios keep producing sequels, remakes, and films based on novels, old TV shows and comic books because they are ?bankrupt for original ideas.?

His approach is based on developing a compelling premise that addresses the needs of the marketplace and increases the chances of selling material. His lecture to the AWG is an excerpt from his longer professional workshop.

The AWG presents lectures by novelists, screenwriters, agents, producers and other industry professionals at free monthly meetings. In addition, AWG members may attend special interest groups that offer support and feedback for works-in-progress.
