Thinking about Christmas shopping?

I know, it's far too early for my taste. But even us late-starters can't help but think this might be a good idea.

The Burnaby Arts Council is holding its 37th annual Heritage Christmas Craft Fair at the Shadbolt Centre this weekend and next.

The event is a juried fair that brings together 75 different artisans from the Lower Mainland and Sunshine Coast, offering up all sorts of hand-created items that run the gamut from jewelry, pottery and stained glass to handmade confections, Christmas decorations, quilts and hand-blown glass.

Among the local artisans displaying work will be Jayne Knowles, with shortbread, candy and hand-painted stools; Wendy Durrant, with fleece wear; Merle Bennett, with handmade cards, albums and stamped tiles; and Johanna Newman, with jewelry made with beads from around the world.

Admission to the show is free, so whether you're in for shopping or just browsing, it's well worth stopping by the Shadbolt Centre.

The show runs Fridays (Nov. 14 and 21) from noon to 8 p.m., Saturdays (Nov. 15 and 22) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays (Nov. 16 and 23) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Check it out.
