Cain Schulte Contemporary Art San Francisco is pleased to present "New Works", an exhibition of new paintings by Henry Jackson. The artist's second solo show at Cain Schulte San Francisco features a suite of several large dimensions oil paintings on canvas.

In this most recent work, Jackson seems to further distance his work from figurative ambiguity, amplifying at the same time his exploration of a darker topography of the human emotion and questioning with renewed fervor its underlying motives. A still more tightly rendered reduction of his abstract work, in comparison with his canvasses from 2008, this body of work draws its glorious chromatic surfaces from Jackson's well known and proficient use of the medium, a mix of oil stick, pigment and wax. Strokes of abrupt color are here smaller and tighter together, with foreground and background planes enmeshed now more closely to form an overall unified composition, freer from previous divisional structures, with looser and vibrant areas of focus throughout the whole canvas.

Jackson's ongoing investigation on renunciation, his relentless artistic quest for restriction and reduction through his compositions laden with ambivalent charged significance, seems at this time in his career to be converging to a transformational moment. Through the now supremely sublimated arrangements, in which the previously perceived figure now all but literally disappears, Jackson creates a visual landscape that ultimately exposes the ways in which the transcendental moments of our lives now surface to a less tangible, yet more recognizable and familiar, realm.

Jackson currently lives and works in San Francisco and will be present at the reception.
