Heart of Haiti Home Decor Line Launch at Macy's Herald Square! October 6, 2010

WHO & WHAT:

Macy’s is proud to pay tribute to the wonderful people of Haiti and celebrate their culture in a way that gives back to their community in addition to ours. On Wednesday, October 6th, the 6th floor at Herald Square will be transformed into an impromptu gallery where talented Haitian artists will display their crafts to the public. This event is extra-special as this is the first collection of home décor merchandise to come from Haiti since the January 2010 earthquake. Each item is designed exclusively for Macy’s and made by hand by Haitian artisans. These surprisingly affordable pieces, available at the International Gifting Center, will help the people of Haiti rebuild their lives one-by-one.

Making a very special appearance that day are two metal workers, Serge Jolimeau and Jacques Rony, as well as, peace quilter Sister Angela Belizaire. Customers will be able to purchase their artwork as they listen to beautiful music and sample authentic Haitian Cuisine.

International Gifting Center:
Specifically selected for Macy’s customers by Fairwinds Trading, the International Gifting Center will offer one-of-a-kind treasures from the Heart of Haiti, as well as, the Rwanda Path to Peace programs. These unique and charitable gifts will include traditional Haitian artisan home décor products, high-fashion baskets from Rwanda, Massai jewelry from East Africa and painted wooden trays from Indonesia. Recognizing the continued need in both Rwanda and Haiti, each purchase made from the International Gifting Center gives twice: one in the hands of the artisan and one in the hands of the buyer. Through their work artisans are able to feed their families, cloth and educate their children and walk with dignity where opportunities are rare.
