The Mayor of Havant, Councillor Yvonne Weeks is helping to mark national ‘Armed Forces Day‘ later this month.

Along with representatives from the Council, children from Park Community and Warren Park schools, cadets, veterans, and service personnel, The Mayor will be attending a flag raising ceremony at the Civic offices on Monday 21st.

The specially designed flag to honour both former and current troops will then be visible until ‘Armed Forces Day’ itself, on the 26th June. Last year over 3,000 ‘Armed Forces Day’ flags were simultaneously hoisted around the UK

The Mayor will be presented with the flag by the Deputy Lieutenant of Hampshire, Vice Admiral Sir Roy Newman at 10.00 am. A short ceremony will then be led by the Mayor’s Chaplain, Rev Steve Tancock, before the flag is raised at 10.30 am by a 5 man team from HMS Excellent and HMS Bristol.

Readings during the service will look at the past, present and future of the Armed Forces Music for the ceremony will be provided by accomplished musician Nigel Smith, who is Havant Borough Council’s Head of Resources.

Members of the public are invited to attend and will be greeted from 10am at the Civic Offices on Monday 21st June, refreshments will also be provided after the event.

For those residents and veterans who are unable to get to the Civic Offices directly from their homes, a special free bus service provided by Emsworth and District Ltd will collect them from Havant Bus Station and will return them there after the ceremony. Please contact the Mayor’s Secretary Anne Thurlow if you require this option for transport.
