Redondo & Cornell on the UNM campus
Albuquerque, New Mexico

An engaging evening will unfold when Harry Belafonte comes to Albuquerque to speak at Popejoy Hall on Thursday, April 19, 2007 at 7pm. The lecture is presented by the University of New Mexico, Office of the President in cooperation with Africana Studies and African-American Student Services.

Harry Belafonte’s work in the fight to break down racial barriers is world renown as he continues to devote himself globally to civil and human rights issues. His efforts have included serving as a prominent figure in the struggle to end the oppressive Apartheid Government of South Africa, working as cultural advisor for the Peace Corps for five years, and becoming the second American in history to hold the title of UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. Disturbed by the famine, war, and drought plaguing Africa, Harry Belafonte also assisted in the creation of USA for Africa, leading to the song “We Are the World.”
