HarborPark Jazz & Blues Festival August 22, 2009

Music lovers, rejoice!. On Saturday, August 22nd, the Mary Lou and Arthur F. Mahone Fund presents HarborPark Jazz & Blues Festival, 56th Street and 1st Avenue in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Since 2004, this festival has welcomed many national and regional jazz and blues artists and attracted thousands of music fans to Kenosha's lakefront, as it has also raised funds to help women in their fight against breast and cervical cancer.

This year's event welcomes the legendary Nelson Rangell, one of jazz fusion's most accomplished artists, along with Christopher's Project from Milwaukee. Rangell has received accolades for his talent on soprano, alto and tenor saxophone, as well as on flute and piccolo. Jazziz magazine calls Rangell, “an artist of depth, a master of song, and improviser nonpareil.” Christopher's Project is led by saxophonist Chris Pipkins, a three-time winner on the popular TV program, Showtime at the Apollo. The band blends jazz, R&B, reggae and classic soul and are crowd favorites at area festivals.

The festival is a fundraiser for the Mary Lou and Arthur F. Mahone Fund, which provides financial support for disadvantaged women who suffer from breast cancer and cervical cancer. All proceeds from this event are directed toward this initiative. The Fund, which is managed by the Kenosha Community Foundation, also offers opportunities for academically and economically women who suffer from breast cancer and cervical cancer as well as offers opportunities for academically and economically disadvantaged youth. www.mahonefund.org
