On May 14 and 15 the semi-annual Happiness and Harmony Festival will be held in Salem, Virginia. Happiness and Harmony is a fun loving music festival that takes over Catawba Valley twice a year.

Usually this event is open to everyone and completely free. However, this year Happiness and Harmony has a mission to raise money for the Heart of Virginia Foundation, a Southwestern Virginia non-profit organization.

The Heart of Virginia Foundation was founded in the wake of the tragedy at Virginia Tech. Founded by Tommy Edwards, former Virginia Tech football player, the Heart of Virginia is the only organization created out of the tragedy that happened on April 16, 2007.

The mission of the Heart of Virginia Foundation is to help raise awareness of mental illness and prevent prejudice and discrimination that may sometimes follow. On top of preventing prejudice they are trying promote better mental health facilities on campuses across the nation.

On Friday May 14 Edwards band will be performing as well as making information available to the public. The festival will be held at 3336 Hickory Hill Rd. Salem, Va. 24153. Go to the top of the mile long gravel driveway. The ticket cost for this year’s event is $10 for Saturday only, for Friday and Saturday it will be a total of $15 this will include camping and parking.
