Hamlet: Blood in the Brain March 31, 2010

Students from Oakland Tech's Drama Department will present Naomi Iizuka's play, Hamlet: Blood in the Brain, in the Alan Harvey Theater at Piedmont High School.

This PG-13 version of Shakespeare's Hamlet is set in Oakland in the l980's. Jeff Peterson, Piedmont High English teacher says,"You can see with fresh eyes the psychological and political complexities of one of the greatest tragedies of English literature, but also to appreciate those complexities in a cultural context that couldn't be more local or historically immediate. It's a hip hop revenge tragedy, a rethinking of the play's fundamental issues: the challenges of loyalty and moral action in a world of violence and corruption."
