THE WHITE HORSE THEATER COMPANY PRESENTS
PREMIERE WORKSHOP PRODUCTION OF NEW AMERICAN PLAY:
HALF by GREG LEMOINE

New York, NY - The White Horse Theater Company, known for successful revivals of American classics, will present their inaugural workshop production of a new American play-- Half by Greg Lemoine --at The Workshop Theater Company (312 West 36 St.) in NYC from May 30 – June 3rd, 2007. The play is directed by Producing Artistic Director Cyndy A. Marion, recognized for her innovative productions of In The Bar of a Tokyo Hotel (by Tennessee Williams), Buried Child, A Lie of The Mind, States of Shock, True West and praised by The New York Times for “presenting a very good revival of The Late Henry Moss.”

Half, written by resident playwright Greg Lemoine, depicts the tragic story of a merchant marine sailor as he struggles to face the demons of his past and fights for the courage to love again. Half (aka Ewell) arrives home after more than 20 years at sea to visit his father’s grave and to claim his inheritance from two greedy uncles who have no intention of giving it to him. Coming home proves more difficult than Half imagined and he ends up in the hospital after trying to kill himself. Cai, the nurse on duty, is drawn to Half and takes a special interest in him. Both Cai and Half are victims of parental abuse and as they struggle to overcome the issues from their pasts, they discover that they have much more in common than they think.

Half has been in development with The White Horse Theater Company since 2004. The inaugural production of WHTC’s New Play Development Series, a program designed to help new American playwrights develop their story/vision through a series of informal readings and talkbacks, will be presented in an introductory workshop format.

The play’s director Cyndy A. Marion has been hailed by USA TODAY as “a budding young Shepard interpreter” and lauded by The NY Blade for her revival of a rare Tennessee Williams play: “In the Bar of a Tokyo Hotel hasn’t played in New York in more than 25 years, which only makes the sensitivity of the ensemble led by director Cyndy A. Marion all the more praiseworthy.” Ms. Marion’s directing credits with White Horse include: In the Bar of a Tokyo Hotel, The Late Henry Moss, Buried Child, A Lie of The Mind, States of Shock and True West. Other New York directing credits include Fool For Love, La Turista, Red Cross, 12 Angry Men, Last Train to Nibroc, Mud and The Mandala. She earned her MFA in Directing from Brooklyn College and is the 2001 recipient of the Joel Zwick Scholarship in Directing.

Playwright Greg Lemoine is a graduate of New York University. A poet, novelist and playwright, his works include the novel God Laughing and a short play, The Witches Avenue (A Eulogy). His poem “Dreams Fade” was published in the anthology Best Short Poems of 2000. Mr. Lemoine is an associate member of The Dramatists’ Guild.

The production will feature a cast that includes Bill Fairbairn (The Late Henry Moss), Jennifer-Scott Mobley, Mark Ransom and Ken Trammell (A Lie of the Mind). The production team includes Vanessa Bombardieri (Assistant Director), Andis Gjoni (Set Design), Debra Leigh Siegel (Light Design) and David Thompson (Costume Design).

The White Horse Theater Company is a non-profit organization dedicated to producing plays for the public by and involving American artists. They strive to unleash, investigate and question American social and political issues by re-examining American classics and developing new American voices. This production has been made possible in part through the sponsorship of The Field, and with funding provided by White Horse Theater Company sponsors.
