It is 1962 in Baltimore and Tracy Turnblad has big hair, a big heart, and a big passion to dance. She's never been part of the 'in' crowd - until she wins a spot on the local TV dance program 'The Corny Collins Show'. Overnight Tracy becomes a teen idol, setting dance and fashion trends. But Tracy is more than just a perfect hair-do. She takes on issues of the day as she attempts to integrate the show.
