On June 16 at 8pm, Philadelphia Orchestra principal cellist and Naumberg Competition winner Hai-Ye Ni will give a master class to talented young CSM cellists and perform at Sonoma State's new Green Music Center, room 1028. Ms. Ni has served as associate principal cellist of the New York Philharmonic. In addition to Naumberg, she has won an Avery Fisher Career Grant, second prize at the Rostropovich Competition, and first prize at the International Paulo Cello Competition. She has soloed with the Chicago Symphony, San Francisco Symphony, Vancouver Symphony, Singapore Symphony, and the Orchestre National de Paris, among others. She has collaborated with artists including pianists Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Lang Lang, Yefim Bronfman, and violinists Joshua Bell, Gil Shaham, Christian Tetzlaff, and Pinchas Zukerman.

About Hai-Ye Ni
Currently principal cellist of the Philadelphia Orchestra, Ms. Ni first came into prominence via her New York debut at Alice Tully Hall in 1991. This noted performance came as a result of her capturing the first prize at the Naumburg International Cello Competition in 1990. She is also the first prize winner of the International Paulo Cello Competition in Finland, and a recipient of the Avery Fisher Career Grant. She made her debut with the Chicago Symphony in 1997 under the baton of Christoph Eschenbach. From 1999 to 2006, Ms. Ni was the associate principal cellist for the New York Philharmonic. During her tenure, she collaborated with Bobby McFerrin in the Vivaldi Concerto for two cellos, and made her solo debut with the orchestra in 2003. Her solo CD on Naxos was chosen CD of the week by Classic FM, London. She was featured on Philadelphia Orchestra's Shostakovich CD on Ondine. Born in Shanghai, China in 1972, Hai-Ye began her cello studies with her mother. She studied at the Shanghai Conservatory and with Irene Sharp at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, Joel Krosnick at the Juilliard School of Music, and William Pleeth in London.
