HackenLee(Chinese pinyin: Li Keqin) is a Cantopop singer in Hong Kong, mainland China, Taiwan, other parts of Southeast Asia and the UnitedStates famous for performing slow pop ballads.

While Lee was still studying at Wah Yan College, Hong Kong,Lee entered the TVB new talent show along with Alex To, William So,Vivian Chow, Grasshopper, and Eddie Ng. Although he did not get intothe top 30 but his passion for singing made him enter anothercompetition. Lee won the 1985 Hong Kong 19 District Singing Contestsinging "Love in the Fog", a song made famous by Alan Tam, and wasoffered a contract with PolyGram Records. As a new and relativelyunknown singer, the sales of his first EP album "Li Keqin" did not evenreach the 5,000 mark. However, in 1988, he appeared in a TVB televisionseries "Teenage No More", which ignited his popularity and his careerstarted taking off.

In1992, he reached the first peak in his career. His song "Red Sun", thelyrics of which he wrote himself, is still widely recognized to thisday as the prime "feel-good" song in Hong Kong. This song appeared right at the moment when Cantopop was blooming, andhis music was well-received. His first concert, held at the Hong KongColiseum in 1993 was very well received, with all the tickets sold outin a couple days.

However, his fortune took a turn for the worse from 1995 onward followingvarious contract disputes with his record company and a concert with avery low turnout. For a short time, he had no recording contract andbecame a presenter for TVB for shows such as the music programme "JadeSolid Gold", Miss Hong Kong and numerous sports events, notably soccer. At the same time, he also appeared occasionally in dramas for TVB.Although his music career was at a low point then, he made a name forhimself as a host and an actor.
