Community Health Management Services is offering CitizenReady™ pilot training courses to prepare Arizonans for an H1N1 influenza outbreak.

Ages 18 and up.

Community Health Management Services is offering CitizenReady™ pilot training courses to prepare Arizonans for an H1N1 influenza outbreak.

The training courses are designed to assist citizens in preparing to respond to the 2009 H1N1 flu. The pilot consists of a simple 1.5-hour course that will empower participants to develop a “citizen responder” state of mind, and to think clearly about reacting appropriately in a true pandemic situation. After completing the training courses participants should be able to:

•Explain the difference between seasonal and pandemic influenza.
•Explain the role of the public health system during a pandemic.
•Describe public health directives that may be issued in a pandemic and why they should be followed.
•Discuss actions that individuals and communities can take to prepare for and respond to an influenza pandemic.

The CitizenReady Program is being piloted through October by the American Medical Association, in cooperation with the Department of Homeland Security and the National Disaster Life Support Foundation. CitizenReady is designed to foster community resilience for disasters and public health emergencies through health education.
