Gwen Mazer presents "Conversations with Wise Women" with poet, Nikki Giovanni
Join us for a fascinating afternoon with this world-renowned poet, writer, commentator, activist and educator, riffing, rapping, chatting and reading variations on the theme of love from her book, Bicycles: Love Poems.

Nikki is a writer who entertains, challenges, informs and inspires and is one of the most widely read American poets, the author of over 27 books, with a career that has earned accolades, honorary degrees and awards. She prides herself on being "a Black American, a daughter, a mother and professor of English."

Sometimes controversial, sometimes ethereal, always beautiful, her poems move readers of all backgrounds and generations. Nikki reminds us that love can be experienced in many ways, at every age. When her life was spinning out of control after the loss of her mother and her sister and a massacre at Virgina Tech, where she teaches, she rediscovered love-what she calls "the antidote." With fearless passion and spirited wit, Nikki rhapsodizes in "Bicycles" about romance, love and the joys of life-all the things that give us balance between heartache and loss.

"We love because it is the only true adventure"-Nikki Giovanni

Conversation with book signing and refreshments to follow.
