The Greater Washington Area Chapter, Women Lawyers Division of the National Bar Association (GWAC) and the GWAC Foundation, Inc. will celebrate over 30 years of servicing the needs of the Washington, DC area community with their 19th Annual Fundraising Auction on Friday, May 19th at from 6:30pm until 10pm at the Renaissance Hotel, 999 Ninth Street NW, Washington, DC 20001.

GWAC is a network of over 150 African-American women attorneys and judges of diverse backgrounds who share a commitment to community service. To better accomplish its mission, GWAC established the GWAC Foundation Incorporated in 1974. The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, and is the recipient of all Auction proceeds.

The GWAC Foundation?s charitable activities are many and varied. Since 1984, the Foundation has funded a mentoring and tutoring program for 5th and 6th grade girls at the Malcolm X Elementary School in Anacostia, Washington, DC. In addition to one-on-one interaction with GWAC members, the students receive cultural enrichment through activities such as field trips to museums, weekend retreats, VIP White House tours, and performances at the Kennedy Center. The Foundation also funds a paid legal intern program for DC area law students and supports the Washington Center for Aging Services and other community organizations such as Our Place DC, Safe Shores-the DC Children?s Advocacy Center, Dress for Success, the Washington Informer City-Wide Spelling Bee, Deborah?s Hayride to Christmas, Running for Recovery and the Northwest Family Center Therapeutic Day Camp. The Annual Fundraising Auction is the primary means by which the Foundation raises funds in support of these and other charitable activities.

The public is invited to attend the Annual Fundraising Auction.
