Guitar Player's Guitar Superstar Competition September 18, 2010

Now in its sixth year, Guitar Player Magazine’s Guitar Superstar 2010 pits ten accomplished guitarists in a thrilling live-performance battle to impress a panel of world-famous guitar heroes and win the annual Guitar Superstar crown. Hundreds of guitarists posted videos of themselves performing original instrumental songs at truefire.com, and were rated by the staff of Guitar Player magazine. Nine astounding players were selected by the Guitar Player editors, and one player made the finals by winning a "People's Choice" spot as voted by the public. The 2010 judges -- who will evaluate each performer on technique, tone, creativity, and charisma -- include Elliot Easton (The Cars), Reeves Gabrels (David Bowie), fusion great Scott Henderson, and instrumental titan Gary Hoey. Host of this year’s big event is Brendon Small, co-creator of Adult Swim’s Metalocalypse animated series, and shred-tastic guitarist for Dethklok.

The Livermore Valley Performing Arts Center, in partnership with Guitar Player Magazine, presents Guitar Player LIVE! A guitar festival that brings together players, music lovers, guitar legends, and exhibitors for a celebration of music inspired by guitars — free live performances, free artist clinics, the latest gear and more. The weekend kicks off with a concert by legendary rock guitarists Ronnie Montrose and Gary Hoey, and closes with Guitar Player Magazine’s sixth annual Guitar Superstar Competition. Enjoy local bands on outdoor stages during the afternoon, mingle with guitarists, band members, and music enthusiasts at post-show parties, and rock the past with late night screenings of two guitar-inspired films, “This is Spinal Tap” and “The Wall.”
