Guitar Nouveau November 13, 2010

This exhibition presents a collection of boutique guitars designed and made by renowned luthier Michael Spalt in collaboration with educator, musician, and author Paul Schmidt. The project was initiated by Paul Schmidt who had admired Michael Spalt's resin-topped guitars with collaged art. Inspired by their look and feel which was reminiscent of the texture and depth in Tiffany glass, Paul Schmidt approached the luthier with an idea for a series of guitars. Schmidt proposed to create guitars that would imaginatively reflect the work of Art Nouveau artists and yet be fully playable and musically gratifying contemporary electric instruments.
