Commodore Stephen Decatur Jr. and his wife, Susan commissioned Benjamin Henry Latrobe, America's first professional architect and engineer, to design a home "fit for entertaining." Built in 1818, the Decatur's home was the first private residence on the President's Park. The guided tours of the house depart every hour, at fifteen minutes past the hour, and last 30-45 minutes.
