"No superior on the world's stages" (The New York Times)

Join PCMS in welcoming back the Guarneri Quartet for one of two final performances during the 2008-2009 concert season. After 45 seasons, the Quartet consisting of Arnold Steinhardt, John Dalley, Michael Tree and Peter Wiley will bow in May 2009 (David Soyer played cello until 2001). Renowned for their resilient, elegant skill and annual Metropolitan Museum of Art six-concert series, among other accomplishments, the Guarneri Quartet has been the corner stone of the PCMS series since our opening night in 1986.

The Quartet will be joined by the principal violist of the Toronto Symphony, Teng Li, for Mozart’s C Major Quintet—possibly the best-known of his six 'viola quintets.' Also on the program are string quartets by Bartok and Dvorak. Ms. Li, who began playing viola at 12 years old in her native China, studied at the Curtis Institute with Michael Tree before joining the Toronto Symphony, all by the age of 22.

Teng Li talks candidly about her life in this Toronto Symphony Orchestra podcast with host Michael Kramer. From her childhood influences (she received her first instrument at age two), to her explanation of what it takes to play the viola (she needs to use her entire body), the interview is warm, inspiring, and ultimately a look into the life of one of classical music's most talented young performers:
