Brazilian Choro Group

Grupo Falso Baiano is Zack Pitt-Smith, reeds, Brian Moran, 7 string guitar, Jesse Appelman, mandolin(bandolim), and Ami Molinelli, percussion.

Grupo Falso Baiano returns to Yoshiʼs Oakland for a very
special concert featuring Brazilian pianist/accordionist Jovino Santos Neto. Grupo Falso Baiano has been performing throughout California for over 6 years, bringing their energetic mixture of Brazilian choro, samba and jazz to appreciative audiences everywhere. In 2008, they
invited Jovino to appear on their album Viajando: Choro e Jazz (performing on
accordion).

Jovino Santos-Neto is a three-time Latin Grammy nominee, a master pianist, composer and arranger, and is among the top Brazilian musicians working today. Currently based in Seattle, Washington, he has throughout his career been closely affiliated with the
Brazilian master musician/composer Hermeto Pascoal, where he was an integral member of his group from 1977 – 1992.

The upcoming July show will feature the original quartet formation, and well as an expanded group featuring Jovino and percussionist Brian Rice, who will draw upon their varied experiences in Brazilian choro, forró, jazz, flamenco and funk for an eclectic and adventurous evening.
