Greg Mayer’s Jazz Band:
Greg Meyer on sax/flute, Bill Freed on bass, & Keith Miller on piano.

Greg Meyer is a classically trained saxophonist who writes and plays jazz. After undergraduate work in Music Education and graduate work in Saxophone Performance he played in and around New York City in many different venues and genres. He studied with the great Phil Woods and also learned from Mike Brecker, Billy Mitchell, Clifford Jordon, Turk Mauro, Jimmy Lyons and many others. In the Manhattan Plaza Jazz Orchestra he played under Muhal Abrams and Slide Hampton and beside jazz greats like Walter Bishop Jr., Jack Walrath, Chico Freeman and Ricky Ford.
With a talented group of fellow professionals he is now presenting contemporary interpretations of the music of great players and composers like Sonny Rollins, John Coltrane, Duke Ellington, Tom Jobim, Stan Getz, Cannonball Adderley, Phil Woods, Wayne Shorter and Chick Corea, as well as standards from shows and movies.
His compositions exhibit a keen desire to stretch the song form in terms of harmonic vocabulary as well as architectural structure. He is fond of exploring musical aspects of other cultures incorporating Latin and Asian influences. His compositions may be heard in funk/fusion environments as well as straight-ahead jazz.
Greg plays alto, tenor and soprano saxophones, flute and, sometimes, guitar and vocals. He has played with and fronted show bands in Atlantic City and Las Vegas. He is a talented, accomplished musician and an experienced performer.
