Chicago’s West Town will receive a fresh green coat this summer as it plays host to Green Music Fest, Saturday August 15th and Sunday, August 16th in Eckhart Park (1330 W. Chicago Avenue). This new and innovative green technology-themed event aims to reflect our hip and eco-friendly city by fusing environmentally-conscious bands with all green vendors, services and activities. Tickets are on-sale now at www.ticketweb.com (prices listed below).

The brainchild of the West Town Chicago Chamber of Commerce, Green Music Fest is where thousands of community members who care for the environment can unite to enjoy high quality music while discovering new ways to go green. Vendors will be exclusively green or eco-friendly, peddling everything from crafts made from recycled materials to solar-powered techie devices. To top it off, plenty of fun-filled family activities strewn throughout the weekend will fund improvements to the Eckhart Park playground.

With sponsorship support from the City of Chicago’s Center for Green Technology, an estimated 60-plus green vendors and sponsors will participate in this inaugural event. Chicago-based Green Planet Bottling will be providing attendees with a healthy, environmentally friendly beverage option as the festival’s official bottled water vendor, using bottles made from 100% renewable resources. The fest is also being produced in the most eco-friendly way possible, with biodegradable plastic cups, numerous recycling and composting options, free bike valet parking, and much more.

My friend and I got ripped off by one of the performers (a drummer) from the Green Fest on Wednesday Aug. 12th. We took a day off work to go to Millenium Park and we were stopped by a young man on a bike who started a conversation and explained about the Green Music Fest on the weekend. He asked if we wanted to give a donation for one of their CDs, which we assumed was a sample CD, since it had the Green Music Fest ad tucked into the CD envelope. When we got home we discovered the CD was a blank. Lousy promotion for the Fest!!
