Edmonds, WA (July 17, 2008) - An outdoor showcase of eco-friendly products, services and information aimed at helping people live a greener life is coming to downtown Edmonds on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008.

Sponsored by Green for Good with support from Sustainable Edmonds, the Green Edmonds Festival will run from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. at the Frances Anderson Center Playfield, 700 Main Street.

Highlights of the daylong festival include:

* Booths offering green/organic/sustainable products, services and food/drink.
* A children's crafts area featuring recyclable/recycled materials.
* A solar-powered stage with live music from the classic hits band The Murphtones.
* Informative speakers on topics ranging from greener home remodeling to cooking with local/organic ingredients on a budget to planning environmentally friendly holiday celebrations. (See speaker list below.)

Admission is free, and participants are encouraged to bike, walk, take a bus or carpool to the event. In addition, Shuttle Express will be providing free shuttle service from the former Woodway High School parking lot, 23200 100th Ave. W. in Edmonds, to the playfield. To minimize waste produced during the event, recycling of festival-related trash and food products will be provided onsite, with help from Edmonds-Woodway High School Environmental Club members.

"I'm very pleased that Edmonds will have its first-ever green festival," said Edmonds Mayor Gary Haakenson. "With an increasing sensitivity toward climate conditions, citizens are eager to learn more about how they can protect and preserve our natural resources. This event is the ideal way to have fun while becoming more environmentally aware."

In addition, during the week of Sept. 8, Green for Good, Sustainable Edmonds and the Edmonds business community are planning a variety of Green Week activities leading up to the festival. Participating Edmonds merchants will be offering reusable shopping bags in their stores, and at 7 p.m. on Sept. 11 Sustainable Edmonds will sponsor a Greener Living program, with tips for a more eco-friendly home. As part of the program, toy safety expert Seth Goldberg of Bellevue-based Essco Safety Check will offer free testing of toys and kitchenware for lead and other toxins.

"The festival ties in perfectly with the City of Edmonds' commitment to increased energy efficiency and sustainability while helping to educate citizens and encourage conservation," Haakenson added. "I'm confident Green Edmonds will soon become a community favorite."
