A model of consistency under seventh-year head coach Tod Kowalczyk, the Green Bay Phoenix again is projected to be among the Horizon League’s elite. Green Bay is one of just 25 teams out of 330 nationally to finish among the top four teams in its conference each of the past five seasons. Green Bay, tabbed fourth in the Horizon League’s annual preseason poll, has been picked as high as second in the standings by yahoo.com, a publication that ranked the Phoenix among the nation’s top 65 teams (62nd) heading into the 2008-09 season. High expectations were anticipated, considering the team returns better than 90 percent of its scoring and 85 percent of its rebounding from a year ago. This Phoenix squad has all five starters back from last year’s 15-15 team that played a schedule that included three Big 10 opponents and also dealt with various injuries throughout the year.
