"In a town where the drinkers are plowed like the roads
In a heap 'round their breakfasts in yesterday's clothes
Sweetheart, this city has beautiful, beautiful snow
Beautiful, beautiful snow
Beautiful, beautiful snow" -Isabella County, 1992

For the third year in a row, come celebrate Fall and all it's implications with the Great Lakes Myth Society, a folk—I mean rock—I mean folk-rock—I mean "Northern Rock" band from Ann Arbor. As if things weren't already overwhelmingly authentic in past years, the kind residents of Bridge House will be helping us keep it Ho-ton, offering up their castle of a house for the gathering.

Additionally, in honor of the Houghton Police Department's commission to serve and protect and ask college students if they could please keep it down; with a nod to the idea of artistic integrity and the magic of a resonating guitar string, and also anybody who thought that it was pretty sweet when Jay-Z was on MTV Unplugged: they'll be treating us to a rare unamplified set. Don't worry! It'll still rock! I mean it.

Opening for the GLMS boys—also for three years running (this is really getting out of hand!)—Sycamore Smith promises a foot-stomping good time, replete with sick and sad stories of the usual suspects. He wanted me to inform everyone that he's got some new songs that he's dying to try out, and he was wondering if the Bridge House people have renter's insurance, or if it's possible to buy it for like one night, or what the deal is there.

Please come and please bring $5 if you can. Touring is really expensive! Take back some cans or something. I can't wait for this night to happen.

"It's Americana as performed by composition majors, by talented musical minds fascinated with the nostalgic images of their youths, seeking to win back the vistas and landscapes of the nation from mainstream, homogenized culture and give it once again to the realm of myth..." -POPMATTERS

"'Queen of the Barley Fool'" is stein-swinging love song that could drink the comparably fey Decemberists under the table..." -SPIN.COM BAND OF THE DAY

"The trick is, you could call this music folk, but these folks rock." -CHICAGO SUN TIMES

"Marquette's Sycamore Smith is truly our state's bard and court jester in one. A boot-stomping, kazoo-blowing meld of Jonathan Richman and Elvis Costello on absinthe, he also formed the original Muldoons, the leading light of the U.P. punk scene of the '80s and '90s, and not the more recent Detroit group of the same name. (See sycamoresmith.com.)" -Tim Monger (of the GLMS), DETROIT METRO TIMES
