The much buzzed-about Great Lakes Myth Society again hits the stage at the Lager House with their songs about the folk tales surrounding our mitten state. The quintet plays an alternately brooding and nostalgic blend of muscular English folk-rock, pine-kissed Northern Americana and Midwest Carny grit. They’re a perennial CMJ favorite. Serenity Court is a painter, cartoonist and a stained glass maker’s collaborative attempt at giving back to the almighty muse of music. Carey Gustafson of Johnny Headband and Outrageous Cherry leads the group, joined by sister Emily and Annette Walcowicz. Mick Bassett and the Marthas is an all-encompassing musical adventure featuring the only two-trombone attack in Detroit. Bassett makes music in the singer-songwriter vein with a slight jazz influence.
