In celebration of Black History month, the Higher Praise Gospel Chorale presents a free concert entitled “From There to Here” featuring African American composers of the last 35 years. This benefit concert, conducted by locally and nationally acclaimed composer/director Stephen Key of StepKey Music, showcases landmark black gospel works from 1970 – 2000. Donations in support of this concert will benefit two worthy programs, a scholarship to the Jones-Haywood School of dance, and the Asbury Ministries to the Poor. The Higher Praise Gospel Chorale is part of Asbury United Methodist Church, founded in 1836, a famous historic landmark and pillar of Black History and Methodism. A reception follows the performance with small exhibits relating to African American history.
