'God of Vengeance' is a drama that centers on a brothel owner who dreams of striking a deal with God to keep his only daughter pure. Unbeknownst to him, she has struck up a friendship with one of "his girls." The play features the world's first onstage lesbian kiss; at its Broadway premiere in 1923, the producer and the entire cast were thrown in jail on charges of indecency.
