Next Generation of Modern Dance on Display at Mills College April 15, 16 & 17th
In the year 2010, more than 70 years after it's founding, the Mills Dance Department continues to be a beacon for artist-thinkers and tremendous talent. If you want to see the next generation of modern dance, don't miss the 2010 Master of Fine Arts (MFA) Thesis Dance Concert- "GO!". Nine dance-artists from around the country have created brand new works that showcase the scope of what modern dance was, is and will become as we move into the coming decade. Expect to be moved, provoked and consumed by the choreographies and performances of the 2010 Mills MFA Dance Candidates: Sarah Brown, Sheila Coleman, Angela Demmel, Alyce Finwall, Catherine Hoffman, Sheena Johnson, Peiling Kao, Dawn Miller, and Lucy Rahn.

The pieces in the show reflect influences of modern, African-derived and post-modern dance forms. When asked why they decided to title the concert "GO!", 2010 MFA Candidate Sheena Johnson said, "We are such an amazingly diverse group of women. When we looked up the word "go" in the dictionary we found words like traverse, belong, harmonize, extend and become. These words reflected the way in which each of us see our art as a response to the rapidly changing world around us, a world constantly in flux, shifting and growing." Many of the choreographers in this concert have presented their work at venues throughout the Bay Area such as CounterPULSE, ODC and Dance Mission since studying at Mills. If you want to see these talented women in action, plan to join them on April 15, 16 and 17th (Thur-Sat) on a choreographic trip through time, space, movement and sound not to be missed. There is a matinee show at 2pm on April 17th. All other shows will be at 8pm.
