Europa Congress Center
Budapest, Budapest

Modern studies of globalisation and transnational phenomena have started with the influential work of Robert Keohane and Joseph Nye entitled ‘Transnational Relations and World Politics (1971). Globalisation and transnational phenomena have a long history, though. The exploitation of the globe for reasons of trade and business has been documented in detail. Both security phenomena, including footholds and defence walls in ancient times and other transnational phenomena, including migration, communication, lingua francae and multiple identities have been studied within all sorts of multidisciplinary, theoretical frameworks.

Throughout European history Europe itself has been the locus for the spread of transnational phenomena, common value and idea sharing in order to create more cohesion. Christianization but also the spread of other religions, all sorts of political and philosophical ideas and systems and even art styles are instances of transnational phenomena in Europe.

The central question of this conference is: what are the characteristic features of modern globalization and Europeanization and is there a qualitative difference – a so-called quantum leap should physicists say – with respect to the appearance of globalisation and other transnational phenomena in earlier times? We invite participants from all sorts of scientific disciplines, including history, social and political sciences, international relations, security studies, cultural (identity and ethnic) studies, linguistics and philosophy to tackle all sorts of transnational phenomena, to analyze them and to formulate generalizations.

The conference organizers invite authors to submit a title and an abstract of maximum 250 words. Please send your abstract before January 1. If the abstract is accepted for presentation the paper (7000 words maximally) has to be delivered before April 1, 2011. The conference organisers have the intention to publish a proceedings of the conference.
