This is the first Global Underground Hip Hop tour presented by Nomadic Wax. Nomadic Wax is a record label and production company dedicated to African Hip Hop. This tour features artists from many countries including Sierra Leone, Brazil, Liberia, and South Africa. Another exciting feature of the tour is a live group of percussionists. This is sure to be a night of eclectic styles and sounds that you won’t want to miss!

Artists on the tour include Chosan, an international hip hop artist hailing from Sierra Leone. He was a guest artist on Kanye West’s single, ‘Diamonds of Sierra Leone’. Chosan’s debut album “The Beautiful Side of Misery” expresses his take on hip hop, which is that “Hip-Hop culture is more than just guns, girls, and glamorous lifestyles.”

ELI EFI and DJ Laylo are a politically oriented group who use their music to enact positive change in their native Brazil. They see hip hop in Brazil as “the outcry of the excluded.” Their song ‘Marcha Soldado’ was part of the recent National Geographic Global Hip-Hop Georemixes CD compilation.

The other two acts are Foundation Movement from Boston and Zuluboy from Johannesburg. Foundation Movement puts on a tremendous live show and their fan base extends from Tanzania to Puerto Rico. Zuluboy accomplished the feat of releasing a major album completely in Zulu. The beats of Zuluboy come from a variety of sources such as traditional gospel and field recordings of Zulu groups.

The live percussion makes this tour unique from other hip hop shows. Ben Herson, founder of Nomadic Wax, says that the live percussion creates a massive amount of energy. “It’s just one big party from start to finish.”
