Give Bigotry No Sanction: A Conversation on Religious Pluralism in America with Eboo Patel September 27, 2012

“To bigotry no sanction, to persecution no assistance”—So wrote George Washington in his 1790 landmark letter to the Hebrew Congregation in Newport, Rhode Island. A core theme in American history is the battle between the forces of prejudice and the forces of pluralism, the groups who say that America is only for one kind of people and those who insist America is for all of us. Some take to the airwaves with their hatred toward Muslims and Jews, others carry guns into Sikh temples. Interfaith Youth Core Founder and President Eboo Patel, author of the recently released Sacred Ground: Pluralism, Prejudice, and the Promise of America, tells the story of America as a nation founded to welcome people of every background and issues a call to all of us to write the next chapter in that magnificent tale.
