Giri Kusuma – Pomona College Balinese Gamelan Ensemble December 1, 2008

The Pomona College Balinese Gamelan Ensemble presents an evening of music and dance from Bali. Nyoman Wenten, music director and Nanik Wenten, dance director lead these student groups in this the wellspring of traditional sacred and secular Indonesian music and dance. The music is marked by the use of one or two non-tempered pentatonic scales – pelog or slendro – and by rhythmically precise interlocking parts – kotekan.
