Ancient and modern Japanese movement, masks and puppetry are fused in the UM Department of Theatre's concluding performance of the 2009-2010 season, 'Gilgamesh,' adapted and directed by award-winning faculty member Izumi Ashizawa. In this avant-garde interpretation of the 4,000-year-old Mesopotamian epic where the title character hunts for the secret to eternal life and struggles with love, power and death in his quest for immortality, audiences will witness a newly added opening and finale created by the director not seen in previous productions.
