Giant Robot is proud to host the first annual Uglydoll Convention at GR2.

In 2001, Sun-Min Kim turned a drawing on the bottom of letters from David Horvath into a hand-sewn doll. It was Wage, the first Uglydoll ever. After David brought the piece to the newly opened Giant Robot store, it evolved into a toy with a rabid following-selling out at shops around the world, appearing in movies, creating spin-offs, spawning bootlegs, and inspiring a new wave of stuffed plushes.

To celebrate Wage's fifth birthday, Uglycon will feature an art show including Uglydoll-inspired paintings, Uglydoll giclee prints, and handmade, one-of-a-kind Uglydolls. There will also be limited-edition pieces, exclusive figures, and special events including (but limited to) the following:

* Uglydoll costume contest (Saturday, December 9 at 8:00 pm) - Fans dress as an Uglydoll character for a shot at winning one of three prototypes. We'll have a small parade of the costumed contestants from GR1 to GR2 with semi-fair win by applause right after.

* Uglydoll slide show (Sunday, December 10 at 6:00 pm) - Sun-Min and David will give a one-hour history lesson about the Uglydoll story, followed by a drawing for special prizes.

This special event is already causing an online buzz, and is expected to attract fans from around the country and overseas.

The opening reception will take place from 6:00 - 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 9.
