In 1999 The George Steeltoe Ensemble began experimenting in free jazz and other improvisational forms through weekly "church" sessions at the Lexington, KY home of Brian and Elisa Osborne. Since its inception the Ensemble has taken many shapes, performing throughout the Midwest and South and participating actively in New York's free music community. Currently the Ensemble is based out of Brooklyn and is comprised of a rotating field of improvisers and performing artists.

REVIEWS:
"a passionate gust of free jazz and experimental manipulation that sounds like the Art Ensemble Of Chicago jamming with Jackie-O Motherfucker"
WIRE

"noisy, cluttered, and refreshingly nasty garbage jazz all the way, maybe even a new kind of fire music, some shitty city fire like a stolen car burning in an alley behind some slum apartments next door to fledgling condo conversions."
BLASTITUDE #21

"the Steeltoes build thick walls of dissonant belligerency, interspersing flows of hoarse rage with strange languages that mix treated vocals and electronic undercurrents. It's difficult but not intimidating music that does not look for appreciation at all costs but rather seeks the best way to leave a lasting impression."
