The National Geospatial Technology Center, Jefferson Community and Technical College, and the Kentucky Information Technology Center (KITCenter) in Partnership with Kentucky Division of Geographic Information, Kentucky Geographic Alliance and the University of Kentucky Tracy Farmer Center, is proud to announce a regional one day conference to be held Wednesday, June 17, 2009 with pre-conference workshops scheduled for Monday, June 15 and Tuesday, June 16 on the Southwest campus of Jefferson Community and Technical College in Louisville, Kentucky.
This first conference of its kind will provide a regional and Kentucky perspective of geospatial education in the P-16 segment. Presentations by leaders and practitioners in the field will provide participants with an up-to-date view.

Plenary sessions and professional development tracks include the following topics:
-Educational initiatives in GIS, remote sensing and other geospatial fields
-Whats the outlook for P-16 geospatial careers in Kentucky and the region
-Learn about modular curricula use in the field of geospatial education
-Current status of certification and certificate programs
-The Body of Knowledge in Geospatial careers and how it can help your teaching
-Current software development and applications for geospatial education

GIS/Remote Sensing Instructor, Demetrio Zourarakis- June 15th (1 day)
ArcGIS I Instructor, Collin Linebach- June 15th - June 16th (2 days)
Advanced GIS Instructors, Vince DiNoto & Ross Allen- June 15th - June 16th (2 days)
Using a GPS Across the Curriculum Instructor, Ross Allen- June 16th (9:00 am-12:00 pm) (1/2 day)
Administrative Uses of GIS - Instructor, Vince DiNoto - June 16th (1:00 pm-4:00 pm) (1/2 day)

All conference events and pre-confernce workshops will be held on the Southwest campus of Jefferson Community and Technical College, approximately 9 miles from Louisville International Airport. The NGT Center hopes to increase the number, diversity, and quality of geospatial professionals through geospatial technology education at the community and technical college level. Transforming the preparation and continuing education of geospatial technicians to meet the national workforce demand will be done by:
Creating a national clearinghouse of exemplary geospatial curriculum materials and database Web services;
Increasing the capacity to train geospatial technicians;
Increasing the quantity, quality and diversity of geospatial technicians to meet U.S. workforce needs;
Increasing the number of educators participating in geospatial professional development;
Sustaining the Center long-term by seeking collaborations and sources of funding to maintain and improve services and products.
