About the speaker:
Ananda Talukdar is the official trainer for MFN workshops on Shot Peening & Blast Cleaning in India .He contributes regularly to the MFN magazine. He has also co-authored the book SHOT PEENING- A Dynamic application and its future.
In 1997 he organized the first ever workshop on Blast Cleaning & Shot Peening in India. Since then he has been regularly organizing such workshops in different industrial cities of the country which has greatly benefited the blasting & peening industry. He has introduced and implemented the shot peening process to the automotive industry and is presently extending it to the Indian aviation industry also.
He has completed his B.Tech in Metallurgical Engineering from NIT, Karnataka in 1980. He is one of the Director’s at SÛR’FIS KLENZ (INDIA) Pvt. Ltd, Mumbai a partnership company manufacturing Shot Blasting & Shot Peening equipment.
About the Topic:
Gearing up for higher loads & extended warranties Through Shot Peening.
The design philosophy of present day automotives is approaching the design philosophy of airplanes! Not that they have wings, but because of the necessity, have to be more lighter, more compact, more durable as well as being safer and more reliable and comfortable. The present day Engineers are faced with the dichotomy of designing smaller parts to carry greater loads and also because of present day conditions of extended warranties, design criteria on materials very quickly pass from ultimate or yield strengths to fatigue limits. For off highway applications enhanced load densities on many parts demands higher residual compressive stresses.
Hence it is necessary to change the surface stress pattern on the component. Changing the stress pattern does not reduce the load but it can increase the fatigue strength by 20-30%, often more. It requires no change of material nor does it increase the size or weight. Best of all, it is very cost effective.
