Lonely? Looking for new love, friends or collaboration? Curious about other people and cultures? Then Gastarbeider (Immigrant) Dating is for you! From January 27th to the 16th of March 2008, 10 artists from 7 different countries will land in the Mediamatic exhibition space in Amsterdam. Every week an artist will bring their own friends in for visits. A project on identity, feeling at home, being foreign and meeting each other. And the start of a new dating site.

Aimee Zito Lema will show that Argentina is not only steak and tango, but also literature and film. Kyoko Inatome and Emiko Chujo will introduce the culture of making Japanese mochi in the Netherlands. Zhana Ivanova will show a remake of a Bulgarian comedy from the 70s, with visitors from Mediamatic as the actors. Gil & Moti will have conversations with Arabic food workers in the kitchen of a kibbutz. Brian McKenna will search for fellow Canadians in Amsterdam using a microphone and radio transmitter. Sara Rajaei will demonstrate the difference between Iranians and Arabs. And Irina Birger and Katja Sokolova will teach Dutch men how to date the Russian way. They are also the curators of this exhibition.
Gastarbeider Dating (http://www.mediamatic.net/gastarbeider) is open from Wednesday to Sunday from 16:00 to 20:00, with various special activities outside of normal opening hours. The opening is on January 26th at 20:00. From the 26th of January on there will be a new dating site online: www.mediamatic.net/dating.
