Alcatraz Island
San Francisco, California 94109

Docent tours of the Gardens of Alcatraz are revealing the “softer” side of ‘The Rock’ to visitors to the popular national park site in San Francisco.
Every Friday and Sunday at 9:30 a.m. docent tours leave from the island’s dock area. (Those interested must take the 9 a.m. boat.)
Visitors explore five garden areas during the docent tour, which includes inmate and resident gardening tales. The tours educate visitors about the plants that have survived this harsh dry climate, as well as the Garden Conservancy's preservation project to restore the gardens.
Also, every Wednesday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., a docent is located in the garden at Officers’ Row for a garden talk and is available to answer questions.
There is no additional charge for docent tours once visitors arrive by boat on the island. For inforrmation about getting to Alcatraz from Pier 33 in San Francisco, visit www.alcatrazcruises.com.

To take a virtual tour of the gardens and to see photos, visit www.AlcatrazGardens.org. The Garden Conservancy restores and maintains the gardens of Alcatraz in partnership with the National Park Service.
