Garam Hawa (1973) - Film. Director: M.S.Sathyu. Cast: Balraj Sahni, Farooq Shaikh, Shaukat Azmi. Based on Ismat Chugtai's story, Kaifi Azmi and Shama Zaidi wrote a powerful screenplay that captures the trauma of partition for a Muslim family living in Agra. The film is deeply authentic in presenting the ambience of those troubled times. The realistic characters, their dilemmas and the way they have been rendered on the screen evoke a rich feeling in the viewer. The powerful statement that the film makes in the end through the protagonist Salim Mirza [Balraj Sahni] is very convincing. Balraj Sahni gives a performance of a life-time. Satyajit Ray has said that for its story alone this film could be a landmark in Indian cinema.
