Rock, Paper, Fiber
The artwork of Marian Corley
Gallery-Seven, located at 116 North Chicago Street in Joliet, will display new work by local artist Marian Corley beginning Friday 12 June 2009. There will be an opening reception for the artist from 4:00 to 8:00pm on the 12th. The exhibit will run through the month of July.
According to Marian Corley, she just cannot stick with one medium for her artwork. “I am interested in too many things, that’s why this exhibit features three different media.”
The semi-precious gemstones which she includes in her sterling silver hand wrought jewelry designs represent rocks in the show. Making jewelry has been a life-long ambition for Corley and she has studied the art extensively including classes locally at Joliet Junior College. “Once I learned Metalsmithing, I was hooked”, she says.
Photography, a passion of hers since receiving a Brownie Hawkeye camera from her parents for her tenth birthday, represents paper in the show. Corley’s photographs often have a theme of nostalgia for quieter times, and are often combined with poetic verses caligraphed right on the mat. She is a member of the Photographic Arts Society in Joliet.
Corley’s newest interest, fiber, is represented in the exhibit by hand painted utilitarian pieces. She has created a series of unique accent pillows and collector’s item table linens.
Corley says, “The commonality in my use of these three diverse mediums is to reflect organic forms which bestow balance, harmony, and wisdom upon us all.”
Gallery-Seven is open daily Monday through Friday from 11:00am to 2:00pm and Thursday evenings from 5:00 to 8:00pm. Other times may be arranged by appointment. Tour groups are welcome. There is never an admission charge to the gallery. All exhibited artwork is for sale. Please call 815.726.1840 for more information.
