Arc Gallery is pleased to announce the opening reception for "Futures", showcasing six exceptionally promising MFA candidates from Bay Area colleges. Each artist was asked to create a micro-exhibition that should read as a proposal for a larger gallery exhibition or installation. This "before they were famous" exhibition is co-curated by Jack Fischer of Jack Fischer Gallery and Michael Yochum of Arc Gallery. There will also be an Artists' Talk on Saturday, March 9th, from 3-5 pm and the exhibition continues through on Saturday, March 23rd.

Evan Barbour, MFA Class of 2013, Mills College
"Planktos" explores the blurred boundaries between object and abstraction through a series of paintings that portray collections of microscopic sea life, both real and invented.

Amber Crabbe, MFA Class of 2013, San Francisco Art Institute
In "Exposure Alburm," secret-keeping is wrought with toxicities of shame, jealousy, endangerment, and revenge.

Sara Dykstra, MFA Class of 2013, California College of Art
In "The (dis)-Integration Series" portraits of two different women reflect the interaction between painter, subject and the space between them, as well as the space between subjects.

Keegan Lutrell, MFA Class of 2013, Mills College
In "All This Mad Frenzy," Keegan's work explores psychological responses to thrill and fear through the visual metaphor of riding a roller coaster.

Nadja Eulee Miller, MFA Class of 2013, Mills College
"Promise" raises the question of how social structures, particularly customs of courtship and weddings, mold our expectations and desire.

Michal Wisniowski, Class of 2013, San Francisco Art Institute
"Re-flection" investigates object-making as a survival strategy under oppressive power structures and explores tensions between the private and public.
