The Portland Classical Chinese Garden presents a lecture and demonstration with Ed Foy, chairman of the Oregon Mycological Society, on several types of mushrooms native to Asia and their cultivation. Among them are the classic lingzhi, a fungus long grown in China for its medicinal properties, and the shiitake mushroom, a mainstay in innumerable gourmet dishes.

In addition to his talk, Ed will demonstrate simple techniques for propagating mushrooms in our own backyards. A brief introduction to the Oregon Mycological Society and its work with mushroom identification, gathering, and cultivation will round out what promises to be an informative as well as entertaining evening. And if our usual wet and cool winter weather persists between now and the date of this event, Ed may also bring living examples of some of these woodsy delicacies.

We extend a hearty welcome to beginners and aficionados alike!
