Fulfillment Management is managing the outbound processes of a business. In most business organizations, there are more outbound transactions than inbound transactions. This is true because inbound transactions involve suppliers shipping in bulk, while outbound transactions involve physical distribution of assortments of goods to a large number of customers. This course is comprised of four parts focusing on various aspects of fulfillment management. The first session introduces the main warehousing principles, and provides a detailed description of the distribution center operations. The second session introduces some common techniques and practices in planning and control of inventory to avoid running out of stock, while keeping costs low by keeping the minimum amount required. The third session is about the two ends of a distribution center: receiving (inbound), order-picking and dispatching (outbound). The final session of the course considers another key function in supply-chain management: long-haul and short-haul transportation.
