From Within the Emperor's Garden: the Ten Thousand Springs Pavilion July 19, 2012

A celebrated and intricate example of classic Chinese architecture, the Ten Thousand Springs Pavilion (Wan Chun Ting) stands within the Forbidden City in the heart of Beijing. Constructed during the Ming dynasty, this pavilion was part of private pleasure grounds of two dynasties of Chinese emperors. A model of this famous structure has been donated to the Smithsonian by the China Red Sandalwood Museum in Beijing. Made by Chinese artisans using traditional Chinese carving and fine furniture techniques, the model captures the beauty of the original pavilion and is in itself an outstanding example of traditional Chinese carving.
