Tiffany Bozic, Artist
Dr. Rich Mooi, Curator of Invertebrate Zoology and Geology

What would happen if the Academy's marine invertebrate collections were explored through the eyes of a contemporary painter? For several months, Oakland-based fine artist Tiffany Bozic partnered with Dr. Rich Mooi of Invertebrate Zoology, and the result is From the Depths, a science and art exhibit on display from November 15, 2007 - January 6, 2008. Bozic, whose work incorporates richly pigmented acrylic paint on solid maple wood panels, is said to be inspired by John James Audubon and Ernst Haeckel, but dives deeply into the imaginary and darker aspects of the natural world. Join Bozic and Dr. Mooi as they discuss their collaboration and how they found common ground in their passion for understanding nature.

A special preview of From the Depths will take place before the evening lecture, from 6:00 - 7:30 pm.
